 Session Abstract

 Generating ‘Localizable’ Technical Content

The content technical writers create is often translated into different languages.
Modern day technical writers cannot remain ignorant of this fact and need to keep
in the mind the localizability of their content.

 This session aims to:

 ·         Discuss the challenges of writing for a global, multi-lingual audience

 ·         Introduce the element of localizability in technical content

 ·         Suggest strategies that reduce the burden on technical writers and localization experts

Workshop on FrameMaker Extend Script

In this workshop, we will start with a basic Introduction to JavaScript. This will be followed by the description of the FrameMaker Extendscript IDE covering Breakpoints, Callstack, and Stepping through code. We will then use the following examples as a means to get an understanding of ExtendScript:

 Saving All Open Documents
Update all the message URL markers in all documents in book
Search for text in all documents in book
Delete empty rows in all tables in all documents in book
Update the location of graphics in a document
Insert text into a location in a document
Import a graphic into a document
Create a table to include text and graphics

Prerequisites for the Workshop on FrameMaker Extend Script

The workshop will include hands on implementation of ExtendScript in FrameMaker. To make this easier to follow the participants are advised to install the latest version of FrameMaker prior to attending the session. A 30-day trial of FrameMaker 12 is available for free download from http://www.adobe.com/in/products/framemaker.html.

Since it is a 30-day trial period, you should install this about 5 days before the workshop.

Developing and delivering content through oXygen XML Editor

 ·         Single Source XML publishing-—generate a “draft” PDF of a document or topic on your desktop

UX VIBGYOR of Technical Documentation

Based on a survey from one of the customers, a need was felt to restructure the current product documentation for better user experience. The session covers a new strategy that was initiated to address the customer feedback. The strategy is inspired by some of user experience concepts.
