Why I like #MeruCabs? Happy Christmas

A man dies and Yamaraj asks him if he wants to go to hell or heaven. When undecided Yamaraj says I will show you both and you decide. First he takes the man to heaven where everybody is leading a normal life as they did in earth. The man kept quite and he was taken to hell, where everyone was enjoying drinks, apsaras, joy rides, and everything unimaginable.  So when asked what his choice would be the man jumped and said hell. So be it said Yamaraj and the man was send to hell. But when he reached there everything had changed. Some were chained, others were crying and screaming due to torture. When he asked what this is not what he was promised earlier, Yamaraj said that was just advertisement to attract you.

Does Neeraj Gupta book Meru Cabs when he has an important meeting or need to travel with his family during peak vacation season? He should, then he would know that the claim of Meru Cabs being a leading service provider is a myth or purely outdated statement. They talk about women safety, but when a cab service provider does not live up to a service promised how can we trust with our lives.

#MeruCabs has introduced its mobile app with much fanfare and a 200 Rs rebate. But I chose the wrong time to test the app.

My wife was travelling alone from Bangalore and had to catch the morning train at 6:00 a.m. I booked MeruCabs a week in advance for today's travel for 5:00 a.m. They promised that the cab driver will be at my house ten minutes prior. He did not reach till 5:10 a.m. or pick calls and she panicked as it was peak season. It would be impossible to reschedule travel plans in the last minute. Against all hope she took an auto and reached the station. But when the driver did not reach at 5:25 a.m., I called customer care and they promised to send another cab in ten minutes which did not happen. After the third call, a driver called me at 5:48 a.m. and told me that he was in Domlur and can reach by ten minutes. When I asked him if it would be possible to reach the station by 6:10 a.m., he honestly told me that latest he could make is by 6:25 a.m.

After filling a complaint in the morning, imagine my surprise when I get a bill for Rs.1000 for a service I did not use. Meru Cabs, your service is par excellence.

Wishing your staff and management a very happy Christmas and New Year. Hope you continue to give such service next year also.

Why pork is not a best choice as a food product?

1) A pig is a real garbage gut. It will eat anything including urine, excrement, dirt, decaying animal flesh, maggots, or decaying vegetables. They will even eat the cancerous growths off other pigs or animals.

2) The meat and fat of a pig absorbs toxins like a sponge. Their meat can be 30 times more toxic than beef or venison.

3) When eating beef or venison, it takes 8 to 9 hours to digest the meat so what little toxins are in the meat are slowly put into our system and can be filtered by the liver. But when pork is eaten, it takes only 4 hours to digest the meat. We thus get a much higher level of toxins within a shorter time.

4) Unlike other mammals, a pig does not sweat or perspire. Perspiration is a means by which toxins are removed from the body. Since a pig does not sweat, the toxins remain within its body and in the meat.

5) Pigs and swine are so poisonous that you can hardly kill them with strychnine or other poisons.

6) Farmers will often pen up pigs within a rattlesnake nest because the pigs will eat the snakes, and if bitten they will not be harmed by the venom.

7) When a pig is butchered, worms and insects take to its flesh sooner and faster than to other
animal’s flesh. In a few days the swine flesh is full of worms.

8) Swine and pigs have over a dozen parasites within them, such as tapeworms, flukes, worms, and trichinae. There is no safe temperature at which pork can be cooked to ensure that all these parasites, their cysts, and eggs will be killed.

9) Pig meat has twice as much fat as beef. A 3 oz T bone steak contains 8.5 grams of fat; a 3 oz pork chop contains 18 grams of fat. A 3 oz beef rib has 11.1 grams of fat; a 3 oz pork spare rib has 23.2 grams of fat.

10) Cows have a complex digestive system, having four stomachs. It thus takes over 24 hours to digest their vegetarian diet causing its food to be purified of toxins. In contrast, the swine’s one stomach takes only about 4 hours to digest its foul diet, turning its toxic food into flesh.

11) The swine carries about 30 diseases which can be easily passed to humans. This is why God commanded that we are not even to touch their carcass (Leviticus 11:8).

12) The trichinae worm of the swine is microscopically small, and once ingested can lodge itself in our intestines, muscles, spinal cord or the brain. This results in the disease trichinosis. The symptoms are sometimes lacking, but when present they are mistaken for other diseases, such as typhoid, arthritis, rheumatism, gastritis, MS, meningitis, gall bladder trouble, or acute alcoholism.

13) The pig is so poisonous and filthy, that nature had to prepare him a sewer line or canal running down each leg with an outlet in the bottom of the foot. Out of this hole oozes pus and filth his body cannot pass into its system fast enough. Some of this pus gets into the meat of the pig.

A Letter To Pakistan From An Indian Parent - The Logical Indian

Dear Pakistan,

We weep with you.
We weep for the parents in Peshawar and the children who won't play today.
Pakistan, you need to save your children. You need to act. Today.
132 children have been killed in the horrific attack by the Taliban in Peshwar.
132 children, killed in the most barbaric and senseless manner thinkable. 132 young souls who represent the future of your country.
This is a terrible moment in history. Not just in Pakistan’s history, but in the history of humanity.
Nothing like this should ever be allowed to happen again. Not in Pakistan, not anywhere in the world.
The time has come for the Taliban to be destroyed once and for all – and Pakistan has to play the lead role in this battle, with help from any quarter that offers help.
Including India.
It is 67 years since our nations came into existence. For 67 years we have battled over Kashmir. We have fought full-fledged wars in 1947, 1965, 1971 and a smaller war, in Kargil, in 1999. The Kashmir issue is obviously not something that will disappear in a hurry.
In addition India has suffered the horrific terrorist attack by the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba in Mumbai on 26 November 2008. This issue is still outstanding as we wait for the perpetrators, who are in Pakistan, to be brought to justice. In addition, we have fought over the Siachen Glacier and over Sir Creek. These are outstanding issues as well.
Yet India needs to come to your help now – and Pakistan needs to accept that help – so that the scourge that killed 132 of your children yesterday is rendered powerless and impotent.
What happened in Peshawar yesterday was an extraordinary incident – and calls for an extraordinary response.
For you to be able to focus on the Taliban, you need to stop worrying about the eastern sector – the border with India. You have an army of around 600,000 men – and the time has come to deploy all of them against the Taliban. All of them.
We are your sworn enemies for 67 years but we know when to cease hostilities and let the enemy carry their wounded; we will not strike you when you are down.
So we pledge to you that the border, the LOC will be untouched. Take your army, take your air force, take each and every armed and unarmed man you have to your northern border and wipe out the people who did this.
This should never happen again. Not to you, not to us. Not to any parent anywhere in the world.
Finish your job and we will stand by you. We can settle our differences later.
Because it could have been our children too.

- An Indian Parent

Arianna Huffington introduces HuffPost India

Arianna Huffington, who founded the website "The Huffington Post" in 2005, launched the Indian edition along with TOI adding she wanted HuffPost India to 'tell the stories that matter most' to the country.

The Indian edition on Saturday led with a story headlined 'Uber and Out', about the US-based cab service being banned in New Delhi over the alleged rape of a female customer by a driver booked through the company.

Rape has no gender, caste, creed, region, or religion.

I recently watched a documentary film "The Invisible War", written and directed by Kirby Dick and produced by Amy Ziering and Tanner King Barklow about sexual assault in the United States military.

The film paints a startling  picture of the extent of the problem today, a female soldier in combat zones is more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire. The Department of Defense estimates there were a staggering 22,800 violent sex crimes in the military in 2011. 20% of all active-duty female soldiers are sexually assaulted. Female soldiers aged 18 to 21 accounted for more than half of the victims.

And it isn’t just women; according to one study's estimate, one percent of men in the military— nearly 20,000 men were reportedly sexually assaulted in 2009. The Invisible War exposes the epidemic of sexual assault in the military.

But I could not find a mention of the film in "The Huffington Post".

Surprised at how the rest of world still sees India, even today.

Shweta Basu Prasad slams media - The Logical Indian

Dear,
Members of Media,

I grew up admiring some great journalists and reporters who, some times report even live from war-torn borders, natural disaster sites, terror attacked locations, etc. without hesitating a bit. These heroes inspired me to pursue my degree in Mass Media and Journalism degree too. I always thought, ‘wow! These guys, the media, actually risk their lives to bring us the truth’. And boom! You create a mess in my very life. Well done.
I understand that everything was a chain of reaction and versions of the incident with several mis-leading stories were picked up along with my………..wait, NOT MY ‘statement!’, which said:
“I have made wrong choices in my career, and I was out of money. I had to support my family and some other good causes. All doors were closed, and some people encouraged me to get into prostitution to earn money. I was helpless, and with no option left to choose, I got involved in this act. I’m not the only one who faced this problem, and there are several other heroines who have gone through this phase”
Seriously?? Whoever you are, who imagined this statement, were you smoking funny cigarettes at work? Who talks like that? This sounds like a dialogue from some 80's Bollywood film. And why so many ‘and’ in that statement, go back to school amateur!
Thankfully my family, my friends and my circle of people didn’t believe this statement. They know I do not speak like that. But, for the rest of India or anyone, anywhere on planet, for the last time : THIS IS NOT MY STATEMENT!
The problem with our society is, as long as I was given sympathy and everyone went ‘awwww’, ‘poor girl’, ‘so sad’ and so on, everybody was supporting me. But, as soon as people understand that they got carried away by a false statement and a girl of 23 can be strong and can stand on her own feet without any sympathies, the society feels that she is lying?? What’s my fault if the news were the way they were? I cannot force anyone to like or respect me. These happen naturally. What happened was beyond my control.
After my detainment, I went straight to the rescue home where I stayed for 59 and a half days. (60th day, I came home), then where and how did I give a statement to media? My phone was confiscated, I made few last calls to Maa and few other close friends. I had absolutely no access to newspapers, television, internet or radio for those 2 months. I had no clue what was going on outside Prajwala rescue home, Mehboob Nagar (outskirts of Hyderabad). Although I had a lovely time there teaching kids Hindi, English and Hindustani Classical vocals. I always do and I always will count those children in my prayers. I also read 12 books in those 2 months. Yes 12. Spent my time very productively.
But, after I came back home in Mumbai on 30th October 2014, I came across all the reports that had been around for those 2 months when I was absent and I was more amused than disappointed!
A report also said that ‘the cops’ said I gave that ‘statement’, which was denied by the Police in Hyderabad when I confronted them. One of the Police said, that no press notes were released by the department of Police, Hyderabad, of any such statement made by me. And anyway, Police is not allowed to reveal identity in such cases, so it was not possible by them to reveal any such statement. It's against the law. And how could they, firstly this statement does not exist. I was absent in the scene and that was an advantage for it to do the rounds.
And who are these business men in my life? I am just as curious as all of you!
So, here is the riddle: Why were the business men names who were caught ‘along with me’ not revealed?
Clue: Were there any business men with me in that room at the time of detainment in the first place?
Think Think.
PROVE IT!
I was in Hyderabad for Santhosham Awards, which was conducted on 30th August. I was never encouraged to get into commercial sex and no agent booked my tickets and stay there! My tickets and accommodation was done by the award event organizers. The hotel where I stayed with other guests of the award ceremony was a hospitality partner with the event. I still have the itinerary in my email inbox.
My parents did not want me to act after Iqbal (2005). My parents’ bigger concern was me passing my 10th and 12th grade properly and not jumping into movies at 16! We don’t dine at Wasabi every other weekend but that doesn’t mean my parents have not done enough to bring me up well. I had the best possible education, birthday gifts, family vacations, Sports clubs for playing a sport and enrollment at Music Institute for learning music (I learn The Sitar from Sangit Mahabharati, Juhu, Mumbai), everything that a normal upper-middle class parents can do.
I did few south films (Telugu and Tamil) when I was about 18 and then past 3 and half years I had been busy making a documentary film called Roots on Indian Classical music, starring interviews of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma, Shubha Mudgal, A R Rahman, Vishal Bhardwaj, Dr L Subramaniam, Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia to name a few. In fact, in June 2014 along with a friend, Adhiraj Bose I also co-produced and acted in a 12 minute short film named INT. CAFÉ NIGHT that starred myself along with Shernaz Patel, Naseeruddin Shah and Naveen Kasturia, which is doing rounds of film festivals right now. I have been auditioning for acting assignments as well. So what ‘doors’ were closed? Please get your facts right before jumping into conclusions!
However, on 5th December 2014 the Metropolitan Sessions Court, Nampally, Hyderabad, gave me clean chit in the case and withdrew the charges and stay order against me made by the trial court. To all those who supported me through out all this, thank you so much, extending a big hug to all of you.
Anyway, enough said, enough heard. I have completely gone past the whole incident and I overlook everyone who picked up false statement(s) and encouraged mis-leading stories without verifying it’s authenticity. I overlook, because this episode does not deserve any more attention!
